SPAN 1020- Elementary Spanish

Elementary Spanish focuses on developing basic language skills such as reading, writing, listening and speaking. This course also introduces students to the cultures of different Spanish speaking countries.

SPAN 2020- Intermediate Spanish

This course continues to build off of the goals and focuses of Spanish 2010 to improve all areas of language proficiency while including more cultural perspectives of Spanish speaking communities.

SPAN 301-Advanced Spanish

Focuses on the improvement of conversational and writing skills while exploring different aspects of Spanish culture.

SPAN 3070: The Hispanic World- Spain

Taught in Spanish, this class introduces the rich cultural history of Spain spanning from pre-middle ages to present. Explores significant artistic, political, and religious influence within the Iberian Peninsula.

SPAN 3130- Spanish Literature Survey I

This course explores classic Spanish literature from medieval to 17th century writers and examines the themes, styles, and cultural context that exemplifies the historical values of Spanish society.

SPAN 2010- Intermediate Spanish

Intermediate Spanish aims to further improve basic language skills, and focuses on the continued development of grammar skills and basic vocabulary.

SPAN 3020- Spanish Grammar and Composition

Offers a more in depth review of grammatical context, and introduces and refines proper syntax and the use of typical Spanish phrases and vocabulary.

SPAN 350-Food and Culture in Spain

Taken in Spain, this course improves Spanish writing and speaking proficiency while emphasizing the historical influences of different religions and cultures on Spanish cuisine through interactive lessons and field studies.

SPAN 3150- Spanish for Health Professionals

A basic introduction to medical terminology in Spanish designed for students pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Course content is enriched by visits to local hospitals and other healthcare practices in Seville, Spain.

SPAN 4180- Technical Spanish for Health Management Professionals

Focuses on the dynamics and equity of different healthcare systems within Latin America, as well as specialized vocabulary and communication strategies for health management professionals.

SPAN 4190- Health in the Hispanic Community
Taught in Spanish, this course explores the healthcare challenges that affect the hispanic communities, covering health disparities and emphasizing the social determinants of health.

HLTH 2020: Intro to Public Health

This course is an introduction into the basic concepts and principles of public health, including epidemiology, disease prevention, and the promotion of health. This course provides foundational knowledge for students seeking healthcare careers.

HLTH 2030: Health Care Systems

An introduction to the functional components of the American healthcare system, covering different types of care, government financing, and private insurance options.

HLTH 3800: Epidemiology

Epidemiology focuses on the study of the origin, spread, and preventative methods of disease. It provides a background of the history of epidemiology and emphasizes different epidemiologic theories and methods.

HLTH 4000: Foundations in Rural Health

This course specializes in the social determinants of health within rural communities in North America, from rural Appalachia to Alaska Natives. The class also explores possible developments for the improvement of rural health.

HLTH 2980: Human Health and Disease

Human Health and Disease explores different factors that effect human health, and emphasizes disease prevention and strategies for maintaining good health.

HLTH 2400: Determinants of Health Behavior

This class explores many different behavioral theories to understand human health behaviors through biological, psychological, and environmental mediums, and the use of theories to create effective health promotion programs.

HLTH 3030: Public Health Comm

This course is an introduction to effective communication theories and social marketing strategies in relation to public health. These theories and strategies are then used to create and evaluate public health campaigns and interventions.

HLTH 4700: Global Health

Introduces public health concepts and the social determinants of health at an international level. Over the course of the semester, this course has students do an in depth case study on a single low/middle income country and provide suggestions for how the country can make more progress towards the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals

HLTH 4900: Research & Evaluation Strategies for Public Health

This course focuses on the analysis of existing research as well as the ethics, methods, and legality of conducting research. It promotes the comprehension of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method research using the analysis of real world applications within public health.
